Hey there! Thank you for taking an interest in the Ruth Throw Blanket. This blanket is easy to make and very versatile, whether you are using it as an over the sofa blanket or for snuggles it gets the job done. It is great as a gift for a loved one or a personal collection to be pulled out in the cooler months.

So, for this throw blanket I used an Aran Weight yarn in the colour Winter White, this colour is absolutely gorgeous and very pleasing to look at. You could of course use any colour of your choice.

Materials Used

  • Aran Weight Yarn (about 1500 meters) in the colour Winte Wight and a darker accent colour around the tassels, in the School Grey colour.
  • 5mm hook
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • A book about 6-8 inches long (for the tassels).

Stitches Used

  • Single crochets
  • Double crochets

NB:

  • The finished blanket is 94cm (28”) wide and 138cm (41”) long.
  • The foundation chain will measure the length of the blanket and the number of rows will be the width of the blanket. If you would like to alter the pattern (shorten or lengthen the blanket) you would do so here.

Let’s Get Started

Foundation chain: Chain 182

Row 1: Skip the first chain and work a single crochet into the second chain, work a single crochet into each chain across. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2-6: Work single crochets across, chain 1 and turn. Ensure that you have 181 single crochets at the end of every row.

Note: At the end of row 6 chain 2and turn.

Row 7-75: Work double crochets across, chain 2 and turn.

Note: At the end of row 75 chain 1 instead of 2.

Row 76-81: Work single crochets across, chain 1 and turn.

Note: At the end of row 81 do not chain 1.

After row 81 fasten off and weave in the tail end as well as the one at the beginning.

The Tassels

To make the tassels you are going to take your 6-8” book and wrap the yarn around it about 25-30 times. You will then slip the yarn off and while holding it between your two hands twist with one hand until the middle twists in on itself. Pinch the cross that formed and grab your accent colour and wrap it around the knobby part that has been created. You will wrap this yarn around tightly about 20 times. Cut the yarn, secure it and make sure it does not unravel. You can now snip the loops to create the fringe, trim the fringe until it is even (levelled).

You will need 10 tassels in total, 5 for each side.

You will now mark off 5 even spaces on either end of the blanket with some stitch markers (or alternatively safety pins or pieces of scrap yarn) and attach the tassels on the spots you have marked off.

And there you have it friends, you have finished your very own Ruth Throw Blanket. Leave me a comment if you have any questions or just say Hi in the comment box below.
